CBD For Beginners: Learn More
By now, you’ve probably heard someone mention CBD, but, you may not know exactly what it is. Despite all the publicity, many people are unsure of what CBD actually is, how it can help them, or if it’s even legal. If you want to try CBD and aren’t sure where to start, we put together this easy guide to answer your questions and help clear up some of the common misconceptions about CBD and its uses.
First, let’s learn the differences between Cannabidiol (CBD) and Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), which are both active compounds found in Hemp and Cannabis plants along with many other compounds. THC is the most well-known compound, thanks to its psychoactive properties – it’s the one that gets you “high”. CBD has zero psychoactive properties – you will not get high from CBD.
CBD may be non-psychoactive but it still has the same medical benefits as THC. If you live in a state that hasn’t yet legalized medical marijuana you can still benefit from THC-Free CBD products. The 2018 Farm Bill states that the legal and acceptable limit of THC that can exist in CBD products is less than 0.3% THC. With that said, cannabis-derived CBD products, or CBD products that also contain THC, may be more effective than CBD products with 0% THC due to the “Entourage Effect”, but we’ll get to that later.
CBD is measured by milligrams (mg). To find the right dosage for you, start with a small dose of CBD and increase slowly until you reach your desired effect. A daily dose could be between 20-40mg per day, or 100-500mg per day, but there is no correct dosage or across-the-board recommendation – you have to find what’s right for you. CBD is not toxic to humans, which means you won’t overdose on CBD, but too much CBD can cause serious side effects such as diarrhea, sedation, drop in blood-pressure, or dry mouth. An ideal dosage of CBD depends on a lot of factors, such as body weight, body chemistry, the condition you’re treating, and the concentration of CBD in the product you’re using. Always pay attention to the total milligrams and the serving size of the CBD product you are buying.
